He was one of 5 international faculty members invited to speak at the conference. This is the 1st time Cole Instruments has had a booth and participated in the Asian Meeting. During the workshop, many exciting, new instruments were presented. These included Miltex and SurgiTel instruments, a new slivering and cutting board with backlight, the vortex, the dual cup placing ring, and the PCID. Cole Instruments also presented a new punch that minimizes resistance and follicle transection rate along with a new surface area tool that aids in measuring the donor area for the total number of grafts. Dr. Cole performed live CIT procedures, demonstrating proper usage of a number of Cole Instrument’s tools, including a new prototype graft placement device he manufactured through Cole Instruments, Inc. Many areas of hair restoration were also discussed in-depth, including the ARTAS robotic hair transplant system manufactured by Restoration Robotics. Discussion on this machine revealed that many doctors have come to find it has a high transection rate, is quite slow, and does not harvest well in the lateral and inferior donor areas. For these reasons, many physicians are moving away from using it in their practices. Other fue motorized devices, such as Cole Instrument’s PCID, are made specifically for performing FUE hair transplants. Dr. Cole demonstrated with Cole Instruments using Pcid, Mpcid and the new CDD-Vortex. His assistants used our ATOE and Castroviejo for pulling follicles. They placed the follicles with our S-Jewelers Forceps using our ring graft storage and Chiller to name a few of the Cole Instruments that were used with the Cole Isolation Technique.

Dr. Benjamin Chang, a member of ISHRS, recently led a workshop in Taiwan at the PSkin Clinic demonstrating the effectiveness of using the PCID (Powered Cole Isolation Device) to perform FUE hair transplant surgery. 8 other physicians attended the workshop, 7 from Taiwan and 1 from Malaysia. Dr. Chang’s presentation was very successful, and the attending doctors were quite receptive to this technique. The PCID is the only mechanical device available to perform CIT FUE. The PCID allows for minimal depth while performing a transplant. This is especially important because it reduces the risk of follicular transection rate. Moreover, the device is very user-friendly. Additional clinics demonstrating this device may be held in the future, thus allowing the use of PCID to be taught to even more physicians throughout Asia.

Dr. Balen Abdullah is a plastic surgeon currently practicing medicine at the Haweler Teaching Hospital in the Kurdistan Region of Erbil Iraq. He is an active member of the ISHRS and attended this year's meeting in San Francisco, California. Dr. Balen as he is known by us, enjoyed his first visit to the United States and was extremely pleased with the instruction he received from Dr. Cole in the operation of the PCID during his stay here. Four of those patients received CIT procedures ranging from 1500 graft procedures to 2700 graft procedures. Another patient came in for an Acell/PRP stand alone treatment.

Patwardhan stated that this was one of the best state-of-the art facilities he had ever been in and that Dr. Cole and his team of staff did an excellent job of transplanting over 2500 FUE grafts on one patient in only 4-5 hours.

The grafts may be placed on the wire mesh and then sprayed with sterile saline to cleanse the grafts of all blood and thereby make the grafts easier to implant. The Graft Cleaning Station may then be easily cleaned and autoclaved for the next procedure. We will create a disposable mesh for countries where autoclaving is not possible. Cleaning the grafts with the Graft Cleaning Station will speed up the graft placement portion of any procedure.
