How to Clean Your Vortex Nosecone?

New Cole Dissection Device (CDD-Vortex) v6 Released

Introduction

In today’s video, we’ll guide you through essential daily maintenance steps for the Vortex nosecone to ensure it performs reliably over the long term. You’ll learn the best practices for storing the nosecone during surgery, using sonication to remove debris after each procedure, applying oil for optimal functionality, and preparing it for autoclaving. Following these steps after each use is key to keeping your Vortex nosecone in peak condition.

Step-by-Step Vortex Nose Cone Maintenance Guide

  1. Understand the Importance of Care
Proper cleaning and lubrication ensure the Vortex runs smoothly and lasts longer, preventing issues with depth control and locking mechanisms.
  2. When to Clean
If you’ve harvested 500–1,000 grafts and need to collect more the same day, it’s best to clean the nose cone during your break—before continuing.
  3. Prepare Your Cleaning Solution
Mix a hydroxy and water solution for effective cleaning.
  4. Soak the Nose Cone
Remove the nose cone tip and place it in the prepared solution. Let it sit while you pause the procedure.
  5. Wipe and Reattach
When ready to resume, remove the nose cone from the solution, wipe it down with a clean cloth, and reattach it to the punch.
  6. Repeat as Needed
Continue harvesting grafts and repeat this quick cleaning step during each break until the case is finished.
  7. Remove Debris
Fully extend the nose cone to its shallowest depth setting. This helps release any blood or debris caught inside.
  8. Disassemble for Deep Cleaning
Disassemble the nose cone and handpiece. Place them into an ultrasonic bath filled with warm water for 15 minutes. Warm water expands particles, making them easier to remove.
  9. Lubricate the Mechanism
After ultrasonic cleaning, apply a light amount of oil to the nose cone and moving parts. Too much oil can cause buildup, so keep it balanced.
  10. Work the Oil In
Lock and unlock the mechanism, moving the depth control to distribute oil evenly through the gears.
  11. Final Wipe-Down
Wipe off excess oil to keep surfaces clean.
  12. Sterilize for the Next Day
Place the handpiece in the autoclave for a complete sterilization cycle. Your Vortex is now ready for use in the next procedure.
