Introduction
This demonstration shows how to accurately measure and design a patient’s hairline using the AHDR tool. Proper placement is key for achieving a natural, age-appropriate look tailored to the patient’s level of hair loss, ethnicity, and desired style.
In this video demonstration of the AHD, we demonstrate the use of this tool on a patient.
Procedure Overview
Key steps from the demonstration:
- Initial Positioning:
- Place the AHDR so that the zero mark is centered between the patient’s eyes.
- Measure vertically to determine hairline height.
- Hairline Height Guidelines:
- In this example, the patient has a 10 cm hairline due to advanced hair loss (Class VI progressing to Class VII).
- Caucasian patients: The lowest point is usually around 7 cm from the glabella. Lower (e.g., 6 cm) can make hair project outward unnaturally and appear thin.
- Asian patients: Typically follow the 7 cm baseline across, dropping slightly at the temples to connect the design.
- Design Adjustments:
- Avoid creating a “U-shaped” hairline.
- Raise widow’s peaks by 0.5–1 cm for a balanced look in Caucasian designs.
Pro Tip:
Always consider the patient’s long-term hair loss pattern when designing the hairline to ensure it remains natural as they age.
